Recycling: More than lip service.

Almost every manufacturer talks about being environmentally responsible.  Inscape does more than talk – we take reducing our eco-footprint very seriously.  Just some of the steps we’re taking include:

We are committed to maximizing perpetual materials giving meaning to the phrase: reduce, reuse, recycle:

Wood
It’s inevitable that manufacturers create wood waste.  It makes sense to ensure that this waste is minimized and recycled as effectively as possible.  We have three main sources of wood waste—skids, crates and MDF— and we process them all according to rigorous sustainability guidelines:

  • Our composite skids, made up of recycled content, last indefinitely
  • MDF waste is taken offsite to be chipped and burned so that it may be used to heat large buildings
  • Sawdust remnants from worksurface shaping are collected and removed by Ontario Sawdust for effective re-use on marsh farms

Steel
Steel, the primary component of most of Inscape’s finished goods, is highly recyclable. We insist that the steel labeled scrap at our facility is collected by our vendors to be recycled offsite.

Fabrics
We work diligently with our suppliers to ensure that the materials we use in our products are not only easy on the eyes but also easy on the environment:

  • Many of our textiles are 100% recyclable and they are designed completely free of any chlorine or heavy-metal content
  • All our eco-intelligent selections are cradle-to-cradle gold-certified
  • Certain of our fabrics are produced with renewable energy sources, earning them a 4 out of 5 score on MBDC’s eco-effectiveness scale1

Paint
Inscape is proud of its comprehensive color-matching program and the many paint finishes available to its customers, but we are also conscious of waste. As a result we continuously seek ways to avoid waste by introducing minimum quantities to be purchased for our special colors.

  • Acrylics used to paint our storage products have either been eliminated or replaced with medium-solid solvents, reducing overall emissions
  • All of our case interiors and panels are finished with powder paints that can be reclaimed and re-used on site, and which emit negligible VOCs
  • The above measures have led to a decrease in airborne emissions, a trend projected to continue

Paper
We are conscientious in our efforts both to minimize the use of paper and, when we must use it, to use it efficiently:

  • We maintain a rigorous program of collecting and separating paper from cardboard, plastic and glass in order to maximize recycling on all fronts
  • Double-sided printing and copying are vigorously promoted as responsible practices within Inscape’s walls
