California Adopts New Green Building Code

The IIDA Northern California Chapter recently advised members of Governer Schwartzenegger’s recent announcement about the First-in-the-Nation Statewide Green Building Standards Code

On January 12, the California Building Standards Commission unanimously adopted the first-in-the-nation mandatory Green Building Standards Code (CALGREEN) requiring all new buildings in the state to be more energy efficient and environmentally responsible. Steve McCollom, IIDA, AIA and IIDA International Board Member was interviewed for an article in Contract magazine on the new building code.

According to McCollom, “It’s a great thing. And I think everyone has seen it coming in their crystal ball: ‘There will be a day when this is legislated.’ And here we are; that day has arrived… This is a necessary step to get everyone thinking about incorporating sustainability into their design projects.
